The evening news announces this idea of arming teachers.
My children who were lounging on the couch and lazily spooning junk food into their mouths sit up a bit straighter.
Our teachers with guns?
I spout off my irritation with the idea and push it all away with the swipe of my hand.
“Teachers shouldn’t have guns, that’s not their job. What if a student gets a hold of the gun and does something stupid?”
“Or, “my 14 year old speaks with deep sincerity, “what if the teacher is black- and holding a gun. Won’t they just come in and shoot the teacher?”
I’m stunned at the idea.
My kids are here to wake me up.
